Which district of Mersin should you stay in?
Yenişehir is on the west side of the city; the university, the Medical Faculty Hospital, CNR Expo, the marina and the seafront park are all in this district. With its wide avenues, new buildings and quiet neighbourhoods it is the most popular area for families and long stays. San Apart is in Yenişehir’s Çiftlikköy neighbourhood.
Akdeniz (city centre) is the old centre, home to the historic bazaar, Uray Street, the bus station and the railway station. Lively and crowded — fine for a short visit, but it can be noisy for families.
Mezitli continues west of Yenişehir; the ancient city of Soli Pompeiopolis and the seaside residential complexes are here. Toroslar is the residential district to the north; Mersin City Hospital is on that side. Erdemli and Silifke are the holiday areas outside the city: Kızkalesi, Narlıkuyu, Tisan.
When to come?
The swimming season in Mersin runs from May to October; July and August are hot and humid, so air conditioning is essential. April–May and September–October are the most comfortable months for sightseeing. Winters are mild, and since hospital, university and business visits continue all year, demand for accommodation in Yenişehir is not very seasonal. During expo periods availability around CNR Expo tightens — it pays to book early.
Hotel, apartment or short-term rental?
For solo trips of one or two nights, a hotel room is practical. If you come as a family, a companion or a team and stay more than two nights, an apartment is both more spacious and, thanks to the kitchen, more economical. Short-term rentals may look attractive on price, but for cleaning, welcome, invoicing and having someone to call, the apart hotel system is more reassuring. Getting here
By plane: Çukurova Airport is about 70–80 km from the city, an hour by car. By train: The Adana–Mersin line runs frequently and the station is in the city centre. By coach: The bus station is central; a taxi to Yenişehir takes about half an hour. Around town: Municipal buses and minibuses run frequently along the coast and the university line; the seafront cycle path stretches from the Marina to Mezitli.
